A Study on Cancer Patients by Occupation

Abstract
Objectives: This study is to analyze the correlation by occupation and age the patients of 5 most common cancers in an effort to provide basic data use ful in establishing effective policies for preventing cancers.

Methods: For this objective, a survey was conducted to patients of 5 most common cancers(lung, stomach, liver, colon and thyroid) from 2001 to 2005, by means of reference to clinical charts and cancer register data filed at medical institutions. A total of 1,617 medical charts were put to processing for this study.

Results: From the analysis into difference in occupation and age of 5 most common cancers patients, it was found that (1) there was difference in kinds of frequently cancers by occupation. (2) There was difference in the correlation of between occupation and age by each cancer.

Conclusions: It is therefore desirable to conduct further depth studies on occupation that are most responsible to frequently cancers. The government is requested to intensify preventive measures aiming primarily at the group of occupations that are exposed to high risk of cancer affliction and to continue to mobilize resources to detect and diagnose cancers that are liable subject to occupation early enough by intensive physical checkup. Efforts should also be directed to reducing risk factors attributable to incurrence of cancers by improving working environment, job conditions and dietary life-style of general people.
